Meeting 10/26 Recap

-Clubs Day is this Thursday, so remember to come out and support by buying earthcups.

-We decided on a volunteer project to participate on through LA Works. It as at the Gibbon Conservation Center on Nov 8. The actual project goes from 9:30 - 12:30; however, it's about a one hour drive to get there, so leave around 8 and expect to be home by 2. We'll probably be doing raking, tumbleweed collection, or brush clearance, so wear tennis shoes or boots if you are going and bring a water bottle. The GCC houses the largest population of gibbons and siamongs, the smallest of the ape species, outside of their native habitat in East and Southeast Asia. The GCC's director, Alan Mootnick, is one of the world's foremost experts on gibbons and usually gives the volunteers a guided tour, so this is a rare oppurtunity for anyone who does go. The gibbons themselves are pretty coll, too. There's nothing quite like their singing.

-The end of the quarter is Nov 10, so we will be having our club potluck during our Nov 9 meeting at lunch, so remember to bring food.

-Try to make it to paper recycling every Friday afterschool between the 500 and 600 wings and at least give the blog questions a shot before the competition is over.

Question #1

What two animals when genetically combined are used in the creation of a light-weight material stronger than steel? Name the animals and the material.

Meeting 10/19 Recap

-Clubs Day is coming up next Thursday and we still need Oreos and chocolate pudding. Donations of food or money would be much appreciated to help maximize profits.

-Matt called the whale watching people, and the experts say the chances of seeing whales is slim at the moment. We're going to be postponing the trip to some time after December. The price will be around $11.

-Ed has been looking into some volunteer opportunities through LA Works, and we may be participating in the near future as a club.

-Remember dues need to be paid ASAP and paper recycling is every Friday between the 500 and 600 wings.

-We are starting a club competition through the blog. Every week at various times of day, night, or very early morning I will be posting a few questions on the blog that may or may not be related to environmental science. The first person to comment the correct answer will receive a point. At the end of the competition the points will be tallied and the person with the most will be receiving a fantabulous prize. Good luck.
